SRILA PRABHUPADA'S HARE KRISHNA SOCIETY
Under the inspiration, guidance and authority of His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada

"From now on unless I order you do something change or in addition, go on with the usual standard way. You manufacture ideas and then I have to waste my time. I have given you everything already, there is no need for you to add anything or change anything. The greatest danger to our movement will come when we manufacture and create our own process." Srila Prabhupada; Letter to Dhruvananda, Bombay 1/4/73.

Questions

The Hare Krishna Society is both a formal and informal association of Srila Prabhupada’s disciples. This sanga is devoted to maintaining and spreading the mission and siddhanta Srila Prabhupada taught, and aims to assist devotees in cooperative preaching and the development of devotional communities.

Why was the Hare Krishna Society formed?

The Hare Krishna Society was formed to fulfill the purposes of Srila Prabhupada’s mission.  Srila Prabhupada encourages that his disciples organize preaching for the sake of spreading Krishna consciouness to every town and village.  Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura and Srila Bhaktivinoda Thakura have similarly encouraged organized societies of devotees for preaching the mission of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu.

What is the actual mission of the Hare Krishna Society?

The mission of  HKS is to please Srila Prabhupada and Lord Caitanya.  It is by Their transcendental causeless mercy that the Krishna consciousness movement expands all over the word.  (Please see the HKS Mission Statement)

Is the Hare Krishna Society based on the teachings of His Divine Grace A. C.
Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada?

Yes.  Absolutely.

Then why not just work within ISKCON ?

Iskcon no longer offers a favorable environment or sanga for developing pure Krishna consciousness due to its ongoing policy of deviation from the sadhana and siddhanta Srila Prabhuapda prescribed. (Please see HKS Mission Statement
Srila Prabhupada’s Authorized Principles Of Spiritual Practice (Sadhana) Section 11.)

Didn't His Divine Grace A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada want all of his followers to perform seva (devotional service) under the ISKCON umbrella and avoid splinter camps or organizations? ?

Srila Prabhupada wanted his disciples to work together cooperatively for the sake of preaching the mission and sadhana he prescribed.  He never required that his disciples perform devotional service under the auspices of an umbrella organization.  Srila Prabhupada taught that one may practice Krishna consciousness in one's own home.  He never taught that his disciples had to join a particular organization, cult, ashram or temple to practice or preach Krishna consciousness.

Doesn't forming yet another organization detract from spreading Krishna
Consciousness?

Forming a society of disciples devoted to Srila Prabhuapda’s mission will not detract from spreading Krishna Consciousness. This is like asking, “What need for another temple of Krishna?  Aren’t there too many already?”

What is the basis of authority for forming the Hare Krishna Society?

The authority to form this society comes from Srila Prabhupada himself.  He often made clear his desire that his disciples work cooperatively with each other to carry on the param para, undiluted, and unchanged.
